Spirit of Maryland Award

The Spirit of Maryland Award is presented annually, in lieu of traditional homecoming king or queen honorees, to two members of the senior class who through their achievements most exemplify the spirit of the University of Maryland. Criteria for the award include outstanding scholarship, leadership, campus involvement, community service and communication skills. The award is presented during halftime of the Homecoming football game.

FREE / The Nyumburu Cultural Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary and continuing the Juke Joint tradition. Bestselling author Jason Reynolds ’05 hosts this annual event where students present dance, music, spoken word performances, and more.

Stamp Student Union

FREE / Gather with friends to kick off Homecoming weekend with music, tailgating games and prizes. The fireworks finale has been postponed to Nov. 5. Meet Teddy the Terp, the University of Maryland Police Department's comfort puppy. Bring your own picnic food or grab some from the concessions at TerpZone and the North Atrium. Students will be able to claim a limited-edition 2021 Homecoming scarf to wear at the big game on Saturday. First come, first served.

Homecoming is about celebrating the University of Maryland, and we want to make sure that everyone can wear their best gold, black, white and red outfits. On campus, please join us in donning the colors of our alma mater.

  • Thursday, Oct. 28: GOLD
  • Friday, Oct. 29: ALL MARYLAND COLORS

8th Annual Homecoming Office Decorating Competition

Oct. 4–22

Show your Terrapin Pride by decking out your office suites! It’s the eighth annual Homecoming Office Decorating Competition! Your participation will get students, faculty and staff in the Homecoming spirit as well as give your office a chance to be the grand prize winner. One winner will be selected by Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Patty Perillo, Spirit of Maryland Finalists, and a group of student leaders. The winning office suite will receive a UMD Dining Snack Pack and a trophy to be rotated annually between the winning offices!

  • Registration ends Oct. 19.
  • Decorate by Oct. 22.
  • Judging will take place Oct. 25–28.

Homecoming Scarf Giveaway

Oct. 29

The first 400 students can pick up a limited-edition 2021 Homecoming scarf at the Terp Carnival. Begin lining up on the first floor of the Adele H. Stamp Student Union at 6:00 p.m. for this giveaway (no earlier lineups permitted).

Oct. 30, Two Hours Before Kickoff

Along Fieldhouse Drive

Maryland Football's game-day arrival is returning to its traditional location along Fieldhouse Drive/Lot 1/Z. Wish the team good luck as it arrives on campus by visiting Terp Alley 2:15 hours before kickoff. Enjoy inflatables, a live DJ, giveaways and lawn games beginning three hours before kickoff.
