Finalists, Past Winners and Selection Criteria for the Spirit of Maryland Awards

The Spirit of Maryland Award is presented annually, in lieu of traditional homecoming king or queen honorees, to two members of the senior class who through their achievements most exemplify the spirit of the University of Maryland. Criteria for the award include outstanding scholarship, leadership, campus involvement, community service and communication skills. The award is presented during halftime of the Homecoming football game.

Tuesday Night Lights

Tuesday, Oct. 18, 7-8:30 p.m.
Maryland Stadium

FREE / Get hyped for a night under the lights filled with music, games, free Homecoming swag and Testudo. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to snap a selfie at the 50-yard line! Enter through Gate I (Tyser Tower).

Homecoming Juke Joint

Wednesday, Oct. 19, 7 p.m.
Stamp Grand Ballroom

FREE / The Nyumburu Cultural Center hosts the annual talent-showcase tradition, with music, spoken word, dance performances and more.

Terp Carnival

Friday, Oct. 21, 4-8 p.m.
McKeldin Mall

FREE / Start Homecoming weekend off right with live music, a beer garden, tailgating games, prizes and a fireworks finale. Bring your own picnic food or grab some from the concession tents. Students can pick the limited edition UMD Homecoming Scarf to wear at the big game - first come, first serve.

Homecoming is about celebrating the University of Maryland and what it means to be a Terp. Let’s showcase our Maryland pride along with our best gold, black, white and red outfits.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 18: WHITE
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19: BLACK
  • Thursday, Oct. 20: GOLD
  • Friday, Oct. 21: ALL MARYLAND COLORS

Wearing the color of the day? Follow @UMDHomecoming and @umdsalc on social media to find out where you can score Homecoming swag, learn about Maryland traditions and complete some UMD Bucket List items. Daily Spirit Stations will take place at a different location each day through Oct. 20. Must be a UMD student or graduate student to win.

9th Annual Homecoming Office Decorating Competition

Show your Terp pride and get in the Homecoming spirit by decking out your office suites. Enter the annual Homecoming Office Decorating Competition for your chance at the grand prize: a UMD Dining snack pack and a trophy. One grand prize winner will be selected by a member of VPSA Council, Spirit of Maryland finalists and a group of student leaders. Share a photo of your office suite for social media to enter for the new People’s Choice Award to snag a Homecoming prize pack.

Homecoming Scarf Giveaway

Friday, Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
McKeldin Mall

Students can pick up a limited edition 2022 Homecoming scarf at the Terp Carnival while supplies last. Line up begins at 5:30 p.m. on McKeldin Mall. Students must present their UMD ID for redemption.

Game Day Spirit

Terp Alley

Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
Fieldhouse Drive

Wish the student athletes good luck as they arrive on campus by visiting Terp Alley two hours before kickoff. Enjoy inflatables, a live DJ, giveaways and lawn games along Fieldhouse Drive/Lot1/Z.
